IN HER WORDS

“Reframe it as: you love challenges, and you love the chance to start again. If you can do that, you can do anything.”

Her Story

Jess likes a challenge. She’s a problem-solver—the researcher, the person who figures things out. She spent a decade litigating medical malpractice cases, raised four kids, retrained in an entirely different area of law, and built a new practice from the ground up. When she isn’t doing that, you can find her pushing her body to get stronger or finding another trail to hike.

The firm she built reveals another side of her. Jess intentionally left the intensity of litigation for estate planning, creating a tiny-but-mighty practice designed to feel relational rather than intimidating. Her office is filled with plants and soft blues. Clients tell her it doesn’t feel like a lawyer’s office. That’s exactly the point.

By late 2025, her business was thriving and Jess felt like she was in the best shape of her life. Then came breast cancer—a problem she couldn’t research, organize, or power her way out of, even though making complicated things feel manageable is what she does.

After three surgeries and a bilateral mastectomy, she is still rebuilding: navigating hormone therapy, regaining strength, growing her business again, and learning to make room for herself alongside everyone she cares for. She is still learning to trust herself to handle what comes next instead of needing to control every outcome.

Jess doesn’t see cancer as creating a clean before and after. She doesn’t romanticize what happened, either. Sometimes, it’s allowed to simply suck.

“Reframe it as: you love challenges, and you love the chance to start again,” she says. “If you can do that, you can do anything.”

Her strength is in what she does next: she rebuilds.

WHAT A “COMEBACK” MEANS TO HER

A comeback means rebuilding without losing herself in the process. Jess knows how to start over—she’s done it in her career, her business, and now her body. This time, she’s rebuilding a life where she doesn’t always come last.

Something she wants next

More travel and experiences with her kids, continued growth of her law practice, and space to figure out what this next phase looks like.
